Italy's cultural treasures from antiquity to the present day
Italy is an absolute paradise for culture fans: not only the Romans left their numerous traces, but also Etruscans, Phoenicians, Greeks and many others created unique buildings that still tell of the cultural heyday today. Over the centuries, the patronage of regional rulers and the church added many works of art that are now considered absolute masterpieces. But modern and contemporary art also comes out big in the Country and is shown not only in museums worth seeing, but also in landscape parks and, of course, at the Art Biennale. And music lovers also get their money's worth: open-air opera festivals, renowned orchestras, jazz festivals and pop concerts, the calendar of events leaves nothing to be desired.
A city trip is ideal as a short break: Italy has so many large and small cities of art that it is possible to plan sightseeing, cultural enjoyment and a stroll through the city in every region. Hardly any other country has as many cultural treasures as Italy: with 61 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, it is number 1 on the world list.
