Budapest boosts global MICE appeal with dedicated fund, major hotel investments and new North American routes
Hungary is stepping onto the global MICE stage with renewed energy in 2025, positioning Budapest as a premier destination for international meetings, congresses and incentive travel. At the center of this momentum is the Budapest MICE Fund, launched on September 15, 2025, designed to support the organization of international business events in the Hungarian capital.
The Fund provides both financial and strategic support for association congresses, corporate meetings and incentive programs of at least two days in length with a minimum of 70% international attendees. Eligible costs include venue rentals, audiovisual services, catering and transportation. By easing barriers for planners, the Fund reinforces Budapest’s competitive advantage in Europe and showcases the city’s commitment to long-term growth in the business events sector.
“Budapest has all the right ingredients to host world-class events: excellent infrastructure, a rich cultural offering and now a dedicated support system for international organizers,” says Ildikó Lippai, Head of MICE Strategic Planning at the Budapest Convention Bureau. “The MICE Fund allows us to give events an extra boost while underlining Budapest’s position as a smart, safe and accessible destination.”
Expanding air connectivity
Accessibility is one of Budapest’s strongest assets—and it’s getting even stronger. From May 2026, American Airlines will launch a daily flight from Philadelphia to Budapest, adding to existing North American connections. Combined with expanded service from Toronto on Air Canada, these new routes provide seamless access from both the US East Coast and Canada, strengthening Hungary’s position as a gateway for North American MICE travelers.
A hotel market on the rise
Budapest’s hotel sector is undergoing unprecedented growth, ensuring the city can meet the rising demand for high-quality business events. Several new properties have opened in recent years, adding to the city’s already diverse portfolio. Looking ahead, major international brands are entering or expanding their footprint, including Moxy, St. Regis, SO/ and Mandarin Oriental. These investments not only increase capacity but also elevate the level of service and prestige available to MICE groups in the capital.
Strengthening Budapest’s global MICE profile
Budapest has re-entered the ICCA Top 20 rankings, now holding 19th place in 2024, reflecting its growing role in the international MICE landscape. Venues such as Hungexpo, the Budapest Congress Center and the new Balatonfüred Congress Centre offer state-of-the-art facilities to accommodate everything from intimate meetings to global congresses.
The city has also been showered with international recognition. In 2025, Budapest Airport was named Best Airport in Eastern Europe for the 12th consecutive year, while ABTA listed Hungary among the Top 10 Destinations to Visit in 2025. Condé Nast Traveller named Budapest one of Europe’s Friendliest Cities, and HelloSafe ranked Hungary among the Top 15 Safest Countries to Travel to.
A destination of culture, wellness and innovation
Hungary’s appeal goes far beyond its meeting facilities. From thermal baths and Michelin-starred restaurants to vibrant festivals and world-renowned cultural landmarks, Budapest and the surrounding regions offer a wealth of incentive opportunities. The upcoming UEFA Champions League Final and the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in 2026 further underline the country’s ability to host global events.
For planners seeking a destination that blends connectivity, culture, affordability and creativity, Budapest stands ready. With the launch of the Budapest MICE Fund, major hotel investments, and stronger transatlantic access, the city offers an unmatched opportunity for international business events.
