Since its inauguration in 1930, Palácio Estoril has been synonymous with elegance, discretion, and excellence. Among its most distinguished guests stands out Ian Fleming, who stayed at the Palácio during World War II while serving in Naval Intelligence. In that atmosphere of cosmopolitanism and intrigue, heightened by the presence of both Allied and Axis spies, he found inspiration for the creation of James Bond. Decades later, the hotel once again crossed paths with the British spy universe, serving as a filming location for the 1969 classic On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, welcoming actor George Lazenby and the production crew, and further consolidating its place in international cinema history.
