Houston, TX — Today, arts and entertainment company Meow Wolf shared the first
reveals of a space within Meow Wolf Houston, slated to open later this year—Cowboix Hevvven.
Though the theme of Meow Wolf Houston is still a mystery, Cowboix Hevvven will be an iconic anchor
space within the upcoming opening of the immersive experience, featuring a working bar and
restaurant within the exhibition crafted by a cavalcade of talented artists.
As excitement grows for Meow Wolf's upcoming exhibition in Fifth Ward, Cowboix Hevvven promises to
transport guests into a surreal dive bar in the afterlife. This bar and restaurant filled with immersive art
combines the charm of a honky tonk watering hole filled with Meow Wolf's signature creativity and
characters. Most poignantly, it features a sculptural tribute to one of Meow Wolf’s founders, the late
Matt King, radiating in a spectrum of light. Visitors will also encounter a weeping grief creature, a disco
ball-headed pool shark, and an octogenarian armadillo spinning yarns of the bar’s numerous patrons.
Each colorful character tells a unique tale, echoing devilish days of glitz and glamour.
Led by Lead Artist and Creative Director Cole Bee Wilson, Cowboix Hevvven showcases Meow Wolf’s
signature hallmarks of interconnected interdimensional interactivity. A major centerpiece of the Houston
exhibition, Cowboix Hevvven explores and redefines cowboy culture and community through the lens of
Wilson, a fifth-generation Texan artist familiar with the state’s nuances.
“Cowboix Hevvven is a love letter from a Texan dreamer,” said Wilson. “It’s a psychedelic space that
puts the 'all' in y'all and serves as a self-referential, autobiographical take on my Texan imagination.
There’s a seat at the bar for all y’all here in Cowboix Hevvven.”
One of Cowboix Hevvven’s cosmic country elements is an interactive jukebox that blends traditional
country melodies with futuristic soundscapes, featuring 30 songs recorded by a diverse array of Texas
musical artists. This auditory journey spans eras and styles, including classic country, Americana,
Ranchero, Tejano, and country-adjacent tracks, showcasing the talent of 30 Texas artists and
enhancing the exhibit’s Lonestar experience.
"Growing up between San Antonio and Bandera, and spending weekends on my grandparents'
Bandera ranch, I wanted to blend that rich, familiar backdrop with a twist of the unexpected," said
Wilson. "My hope is that visitors will dive into Cowboix Hevvven with the same curiosity that fueled its
creation. I hope they leave with a renewed sense of wonder and an appreciation for how blending the
familiar with the unexpected can create something truly weird and wonderful."
The food and drink selection at Cowboix Hevvven complements the immersive experience with a
distinctive twist on classic dive bar fare. The menu was created to enhance (and reflect) the
atmosphere, offering a spot where visitors to Meow Wolf’s worlds in Houston can enjoy some
otherworldly Texan hospitality and comfort food.
Cowboix Hevvven is a testament to the collaborative spirit of Meow Wolf, featuring the work of many
artists, including Jayla Kuemichel, Max Cohn, Chris Hilson, Sofia Howard, Caity Kennedy, Karen
Lembke, Enoch McPherson, Cat Mills-Flegal, Emilio Pincheira, Elana Schwartz, Wylla Skye, Zach
Sawan, Charlotte Thurman, and Jess Webb, among many others. The creation of this immersive
installation also involved a dedicated team in tech fabrication, programming, design, and other roles,
reflecting the level of detail and expertise that goes into every Meow Wolf installation.
While Cowboix Hevvven is a momentous story in its own right, the theme and narrative for Meow Wolf
Houston will be announced soonish.
As opening approaches, Meow Wolf will continue to unveil more details about the company’s fifth
exhibition in its ever-expanding universe(s) of explorable innovation. Those interested in learning more
