Hiroshima Station is more than just a stop for the Shinkansen (bullet train) and JR trains: it serves as the city’s
central transportation hub, offering access to trains, streetcars, and buses. It plays a key role as a gateway for
both residents and visitors traveling throughout the region.
Until recently, the Hiroden streetcar stop was located several minutes’ walk from the JR and Shinkansen
platforms, making transfers slightly inconvenient. However, recent upgrades mean that streetcar lines now
extend close to the JR and Shinkansen platforms. This improvement reduces travel time by approximately five
minutes to key destinations such as the Hiroshima International Conference Center and the Atomic Bomb Dome
(a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
In addition, the newly opened Minamoa station complex, launched in March 2025, features a wide variety of
local cuisine and Hiroshima-themed souvenirs. It provides a wonderful and convenient opportunity to experience local culture and flavors.
With these enhancement, Hiroshima Station provides a smoother, more comfortable, and more enjoyable
travel experience—the ideal starting point for your journey through Hiroshima.
