A Legacy of Hospitality and Excellence
Founded on November 29, 1959, Corporación Camino Real was born from the vision of a group of entrepreneurs who dared to take on the challenge of building a first-class hotel outside Guatemala City’s urban perimeter—an area that would later become the iconic Zona Viva. With the opening of the Hotel Guatemala Biltmore, featuring 93 rooms, a restaurant, a bar, a small conference room, pool, and parking, the foundation was laid for what is today the largest hotel chain in Guatemala.
From the start, Camino Real hotels pioneered regional tourism and hospitality by introducing technological and service innovations such as computerized guest registration, fax services, 24-hour room service, butler service, business centers, videoconferencing, and gourmet culinary festivals.
Over its 65 years of history, Corporación Camino Real has hosted world leaders, royalty, and celebrities, including King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía of Spain, King Felipe of Spain, Prince Albert of Monaco, Jacques Chirac, George Bush, Roger Moore, Anthony Quinn, Mario Moreno “Cantinflas,” and Vladimir Putin, among many others.
The hotels have been the venue for major international events such as FIFA Futsal World Cup (2000), Federation of Latin American Banks (2004), World Sugar Organization Congress (2005), Inter-American Development Bank Annual Meeting (2008), and the International Olympic Committee Session (2007), where the city of Sochi was chosen as the host of the 2014 Winter Olympics.
